Photographic Composition, Part 1
Presented by: Bill Statt
What is the most important thing to get a great photograph?
If you pick up a Photo magazine in the local bookstore, it looks like you
need a $1,000 camera. After all, all the images they show were taken by
expensive cameras. Then, you need very expensive software. Adobe Photoshop
is over $700. Of course you need to print it on an expensive Epson printer,
probably a large format printer. Not if you are my dad. He prints out camera
phone pictures on low quality inkjet paper (not photo paper) and thinks
the pictures are great. He even prints out extras to give to friends.
Guess what? In the Cosco national photo competition last year, the winning
photo was shot with a Kodak Instamatic film camera and printed at Walmart.
What makes a great photo? Composition. Come and learn about good composition
in a 2 session presentation. Bring your camera. If you don't understand
some of the settings, we'll show you how.

| Getting Unusual Use Out of Your Office Applications
Presented by: Van King
| Many computer users need to write large documents at least once in
a while. When such a writer is working alone, there are many times when
a user needs an extra voice or pair of eyes, much as a carpenter might
occasionally need a third hand. The digital camera, an OCR (Optical Character
Recognition) program, and an e-text reader can be used together in an unusual
collaboration to increase your efficiency (and save money). |

Photography BC & AD - Before Computers
and After Digital
Presented by: Gordon Brown - veteran of Kodak and
an internationally known
speaker and author in the photography field
Gordon will present a Microsoft PowerPoint program
comparing digital and conventional photography and how it affects you and
your photography. This program is a review of digital photography from
the beginning to the present, comparing photographic tasks with what we
used to do with conventional photography. It asks, and answers, the questions:
"What Have We Lost?" and, "What have we gained?"
In conventional photography, we explore the changes
that have occurred in the transition to digital photography from the magic
of the darkroom to the magic of the computer.
We examine what has changed, why it has changed,
and if it is good for photography and us or not. Some things have changed
for the better, and other changes make things more difficult. We will examine
which is which and when it is more advantageous to use either system. We
will also compare the quality and imaging chain of both systems and why
they work as they do, mentioning all of the cautions along the way.

Digital
Photography, One Pixel at a Time
Program:
Gordon will present a Microsoft PowerPoint program on digital photography
using the digital methods that he covers in his talk. His program will
explore the current state of the art of relatively low-cost digital cameras
(less than $1,000) and digital imaging. He will also briefly cover high-end
digital SLRs. Since the fast-moving pace of the digital imaging world is
difficult to keep up with, this program is constantly being updated to
make it as current as possible.
In this program, we will explore
how digital images are formed, and compare this process with conventional
photography. You will learn how to handle, manipulate, scan, print, and
make creative digital images. You will see examples of great looking photographic-quality
prints made at home on a $300 inkjet printer.
Gordon will also show a demo of a digital camera so that you can see
how it works. Digital imaging on the World Wide Web and e-mail will also
be overviewed. In this class, you will also see what types of computer
and cameras are required for entry-level, intermediate, and advanced users.
Particular attention will be paid to the following elements:
